Happy Wheels Cart rolls out at Memorial Hospital

The hallways of Jasper’s Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center are a bit brighter with the addition of a fun program from Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ohio Valley (RMHC).

The Happy Wheels Cart is a hospitality cart that delivers snacks, beverages, toys and smiles to patients, visitors, and staff within the healthcare facility.

The cart is operated by a volunteer “Happy Cart Crew” and is stocked with items donated to the charity, including hot coffee from McDonald’s. This is the second cart deployed by the charity, the first being The Women’s Hospital and Deaconess/Riley Children’s Services in Evansville.

“Hospitals can be scary places, especially for children; it’s so rewarding to be part of this program and just encourage people who are facing a medical challenge,” volunteer and Happy Cart Crew member, Sherry Monesmith, said.
Monesmith helps operate the cart every other week at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center.

Dubois County is currently the third county served by RMHC at the House in Evansville, Indiana. The addition of the Happy Wheels Cart in Jasper increases the reach of the charity’s mission and encourages even more families facing a child’s health challenge.

To kick-off, the new program and raise funds for continued support, RMHC of the Ohio Valley has worked with local Dubois County residents to host “Laughs for Love” on March 4, 2017, at KlubHaus 61 in Jasper. This fun evening out is for ages 21 and over and includes food, drink, desserts, and comedian Tony Deyo. All proceeds will benefit the charity.

Advanced ticket purchase is required, and tickets can be purchased online at www.rmhcohiovalley.org by February 27, 2017.
