Naming rights up for grabs in various part of Astra

From Local Sources

Your name or your business’ name could be featured in the Astra Theatre.

Next Act, Inc., a nonprofit that’s working to rehabilitate and renovate the Astra in downtown Jasper, has announced six opportunities for naming rights at the historic theatre. The six areas eligible for naming are: the billboard area of the marquee (not altering the iconic neon in any way whatsoever); the ticket/box office; the balcony, the new sound and light booth; the new concessions area; and the coat room.

Next Act President Marc Steczyk said the nonprofit has prices in mind for each section that will be named. Next Act would like interested parties to reach out with offers. Steczyk added that Next Act wants to be transparent about funding and will name the final prices of the naming rights once that process is complete.

“We’re excited to finally be at a point where we are able to offer these opportunities to the community,” said Leslie Hamby, Next Act’s chairperson. “These rights are meant to be into perpetuity and the initial investment will go a long way in helping our efforts to get the Astra renovated, rejuvenated, and much closer to being open for business.”

Once new naming rights are acquired, the areas will join the Jim and Pat Thyen Performance Stage and the Dubois County Tourism Green Room as the only areas in the Astra with naming rights.

Next Act, the City of Jasper and Indiana Region 15 Planning Commission are working toward raising necessary matching dollars for several large grants, including a $400,000 grant from Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. The project, which would assist with major infrastructure and historic preservation needs, has a total cost of $600,000, meaning Next Act is responsible for raising $200,000.

Any dollars raised or pledged through the Astra’s naming rights will directly assist and help Next Act qualify for the OCRA grant, as well as other opportunities with the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
